This video is produced as part of our studio work for subject Visitor Interpretation Services. Our  video is related to food attractions in Kuantan, Pahang. We named it as “5 Meals A Day” because we went to five places to filled up our tummy.

Royal Belum, Perak


Do you guys know that Royal Belum Rainforest in the oldest forest in the world? Have you noticed Royal Belum Rainforest as one of Malaysia’s premier ecotourism destinations? The most simple question, do you know where is the Royal Belum Rainforest located at? Do you enjoy nature tourism and loved to be in adventure?
If you wonders, let’s discover this awesome mother nature together with me.
Royal Belum is the largest continuous forest in Peninsular Malaysia. Specifically, it is located in the Malaysian state of Perak and crosses into Southern Thailand. It is divided into two section, which is Belum-Temenggor. Belum is up north right by the Malaysia-Thailand border and Temenggor is south of Belum. The area has been identified as an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) Rank 1 under the Malaysian National Physical Plan and recognized by Birdlife International as an Important Bird Area. The Malaysian federal government has labeled the area as a whole as an essential water catchment area and part of Central Forest Spine and plans to protect the forest under the Malaysian National Forestry Act. Despite that, between the two, only part of Royal Belum Forest has been gazetted as a State Park while the rest are production forest open for development. Temenggor in particular is facing considerable deforestation due to logging. Nevertheless, the state government gazette 1,175 square kilometres part of the Belum Forest as State Park. Besides, there is a plan to convert natural forest to plantation forest along the East-West Highway. Royal Belum relatively untouched forest is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including 14 of the world’s most threatened mammals like the Malayan tiger, Asiatic elephant, white handed gibbon, Malaysian sun bear and tapir. Other animals include seladang, wild boars, numerous species of deer, pythons and cobras. It is also home to over 300 avian species. It is the only existing forest where all 10 species of hornbill that inhabit Malaysia are found. In the forest, you can also find 3,000 species of flowering plants including three species of Rafflesia, the world’s largest flower.
Royal Belum Rainforest is 130 million years old rainforest. The Royal Belum Rainforest is one of Malaysia’s premier ecotourism destinations. Ecotourism defined as tourism directed towards exotic, often threatened, natural environments, intended to support conservation efforts and observe wildlife. It means responsible travel to natural areas, conserving the environment, and improving the well-being of the local people. Its purpose may be to educate the traveler, to provide funds for ecological conservation, to directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities, or to foster respect for different cultures and for human rights. Observe the many unique and colorful species of exotic birds and insects living in their natural habitat within the rainforest. Learn all you can about these remarkable, feathered creatures and be amazed at their sheer diversity. Look closely and you may be lucky enough to spot the endangered Plain-pouched Hornbill, the rarest of all species of hornbills found in Malaysia, only in Belum. Another species only found in Belum is the Great Hornbill.
